Our Impact

Every Opportunity Creates a Lasting Difference

The impact of Friends of Metro Parks disAbilities Program is measured not only in dollars raised or programs supported, but in friendships formed, confidence gained, skills developed, and lives enriched.

Through community support, we help create opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate in recreational and social experiences that foster growth, independence, and belonging.

What Your Support Makes Possible

Building Connections - Programs provide opportunities for participants to form meaningful friendships and become active members of their community.

Encouraging Independence - Recreation and life-enrichment activities help participants develop confidence, social skills, and greater self-reliance.

Supporting Families - Families gain access to trusted programs and supportive environments where their loved ones can thrive.

Expanding Access - Fundraising and volunteer support help ensure that quality programs remain available and continue to grow.

By the Numbers

More than 150 athletes are currently participating in programs, with 100+ individuals on a waiting list—a powerful reminder of the growing demand for inclusive recreation opportunities.

In 2025, donor support has provided:

  • Equipment for the Adaptive Ice Skating Program at Bellevue Ice Center

  • New basketball jerseys for the basketball sports leagues

  • Multiple sets of bocce equipment for expanding competition

  • Portable outdoor event tents for Special Olympics sports activities

  • Refillable water bottles to keep athletes hydrated

  • Launching the Shutterbug Club, equipping participants with cameras for a creative program that meets monthly—including Saturday sessions—and is already expanding to additional locations.

In 2026, we hope to fund new basketballs for our expanding basketball sports leagues, provide program assistance for qualified participants and support the expansion of programs so we can serve more individuals. Every investment helps create more opportunities for athletes of all abilities to learn, compete, and thrive.
